JFS offers Continuing Education Workshops

JFS is pleased to offer ongoing Continuing Education Workshops for health professionals in our community.

The last workshop, “An Introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,” was presented by Stephen W. Phillippi, Jr., PhD, LCSW, Director of the Institute for Public Health & Justice on January 20th, at the JFS office in Metairie. Participants learned (in part,) that thinking drives feelings, which drives behaviors – and that all behaviors have a purpose.  Professionals can use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with their clients, to help teach them the skills to change negative patterns.

“Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Training,” with Carol Miles, MSW, LCSW, is the next CEU workshop to start February 15th. Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., developed EMDR therapy as a result of noting that certain eye movements reduce the intensity of disturbing thought.  EMDR is an extensively researched and proven effective treatment for trauma. The workshop will be taught in two parts spanning six days, and participants will earn 42 CEU hours.
