Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust Donates to Jewish Family Service to support Counseling for Children and Families

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (7/19/2017): Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans (JFS) is pleased to accept a generous donation from the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust to support counseling services for children and families. The donation primarily supports an established partnership between JFS and the Jewish Community Day School (JCDS) in Metairie, to offer on-site counseling services to students, parents, faculty and staff. The donation also supports counseling services to children and families at the JFS Counseling Centers in Metairie and the Northshore, plus Girl Power workshops designed to build self-esteem and social skills in girls age 8-13.

“This donation will have a substantial positive impact on local children and families in the coming year. The support of the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust allows JFS to continue our important partnership with the Jewish Community Day School and provide affordable, professional guidance and support to the community.” said Roselle M. Ungar, Executive Director.

Oscar Judah Tolmas was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, a Veteran of WWII, attorney and real estate developer, but horses and horse racing were his passions.  In his last will and testament, he formed the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust to support charitable organizations with their missions of helping others.  His legacy and generosity will live on in the hearts of many.
