Adolescent LGBTQ+ Support Group @ JFS Confrence Room

Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans is proud to offer a support group for our adolescent LGBTQ+ community! This group will provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space for adolescents who identify as LGBTQ+, or who are questioning their identity, to explore the impact of sexual orientation and gender identification on their lives.  Participants will learn coping and communication skills to assist identity development and improve resiliency. Our goal is for teens to leave the group feeling empowered and able to develop peer support within their own communities. This group is open to teens ages 13-18. $40 for all 8 sessions.

In this workshop we will review some startling findings, backed by current research, that indicate which factors influence therapeutic outcomes.

Our speaker, Bill Knecht, LCSW, BACS, is a provider of psychotherapy services since 1967 and an award-winning supervisor and manager of mental health programs for decades.  He is the author of Accidental Therapist: Sharing over a half-century of experience to facilitate positive outcomes (2022).

This CEU is in-person in the JFS Office

From refugee resettlement to adoption services, mental health services to emergency assistance, JFS has worked with our community to help individuals and families enhance and strengthen their lives. We hope you will join us to celebrate all that our community has accomplished, and the lives we have positively impacted, over the last 75 years.

Parts 1 & 2 as well as 10 hours of group consultation are included in the registration cost

 

Participants will learn the underlying Adaptive Information Processing theory of EMDR Therapy and other theoretical, brain functioning, and research issues. They will learn to assess the appropriateness of using EMDR Therapy with patients and how to conceptualize a case from an EMDR Therapy and trauma viewpoint.  They will learn to integrate EMDR Therapy into a comprehensive treatment plan, utilizing all eight phases of the EMDR Therapy treatment method. This includes applying the target sequencing plan, and the three stage standard protocol. Participants will learn to identify, select, and develop appropriate target issues for use with an EMDR Therapy protocol. They will develop the safeguards, learn soothing and grounding techniques and techniques to teach patients to tolerate and modulate affect and will learn applications of EMDR Therapy to various patient problems. Between the first and second parts of the course, and in order to continue to the second part, each participant will participate in a total of 4 hours of consultation.  After the second parts of the course, and in order to receive EMDRIAs certificate of completion of Basic Training, each participant will participate in a total of 6 hours of consultation to complete the required total of 10 hours of consultation for Basic Training.
